Did you know, that just like eating 5 fruit and vegetables a day is good for you, there are 5 things you can do that will make you feel good - and they can all be achieved by going on a picnic!
We have 10 picnic sites described here, with directions, maps, bus times and things to do at each site. Print one off and go! |
Our biggest campaign at the moment is

This is about our energy supply (fossil fuels and renewables) and saving energy

This is about our energy supply (fossil fuels and renewables) and saving energy
Penistone Energy Project includes us helping schools to apply for solar panels, a hydro electricity project on the river Don, loaning out energy monitors so people can find out what things in their homes use the most energy and campaigning for the government to invest in renewables. Also...
We have been involved in 'Art at the Altar' selling home-made draught excluder snakes and decorated a christmas tree with low energy light bulbs at the Christmas Tree festival, where we also gave away hundreds of bulbs. We have been touring local schools with our energy assemblies and have been helping the children to become 'energy investigators' in their classrooms
However, we are also planning a car sharing scheme, have started a CRAG (a carbon reduction action group - aimed at reducing our own personal CO2 emissions) We are doing local conservation work protecting wildlife areas and unusual local species and have produced a picnic booklet for the Penistone area to promote wellbeing and sustainability.
There are also details here about our past projects such as Penistone Carry-A-Bag, which reduced plastic bag use in Penistone to 40% of what it was before we started and got hundreds of local people involved in the environment. We ran a Climate Change Debate, showed a display of pictures from when Penistone flooded in July 2007, asked young people what they thought their careers would be like in a changing future and helped people find their 'smartest side'.
