8 Jun 2008 - Penistone Mayor's Gala

We held a stand at the Mayor's Gala on behalf of the Carry a Bag scheme, selling fabulous bags made at the Penistone Carry-a-Baggers 'sweatshop' last week.

We had a display and handed out updates about the project (attached below) and asked people to sign a pledge to reduce their carrier bag use. We also got several more volunteers to deliver our free Co-operative fabric bags and Shop Local leaflets on 21st June (see calendar for more details).

The children learnt about how plastic bags harm sea creatures and practiced emptying a paddling pool of rubbish with litter pickers. They then got a certificate.

Everyone was very positive and enthusiastic and we went home having had a great day.
