A sure sign that Penistone FoE were in the Huntsman pub at Thurlstone had been given away by Pete’s trusty steed tethered outside (well, his bicycle at any rate). We were a small gathering at first in the quiet pub, catching up with one another and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. Gradually others arrived and the pub became strangely busier before a man armed with pens and paper approached us, we were in time for the ‘Bingo’ quiz night!

Full of confidence, we opted for three sheets. The formidable team consisted of Professor Pete, Wiley Wendy, Brainy Bron, Astute Andrea, Judicious James, Limited Lee and Resourceful Rachel. We smiled as the natural world music round was announced, surely we couldn’t go wrong being environmentalists? Brainy Bron demonstrated her knowledge of bygone music, while in the next round Astute Andrea showed off her geography by arguing with the quiz-master that Tibet isn’t actually an official country, and came away winning a bottle of beer. Judicious James was soon quick to leap to his feet and deliver the winning answers to the quizmaster, only to be sent back as others had obviously given the wrong answers. Professor Pete provided his wealth of experience to the general knowledge round, while Resourceful Rachel awaited questions on quantum physics to appear. In the music intro round Wiley Wendy demonstrated her dark side, confessing all too readily her recognition of ‘A-ha’ and Limited Lee pretty much sat back, enjoying his beer and only really knowing which of the 7 dwarves couldn’t speak…

With prizes of a bottle of beer and two bottles of wine, a good night was had by all.
