Women's Event
As the first action in our Climate Change campaign, Penistone Friends of the Earth took part in the 'Women's Event' in Penistone on Monday 1st April. We were really pleased with how the day went - there was a lot of interest in our stand and the four morning people hardly stopped talking and handing out quizzes. It was great to see how much people already knew about Climate Change and how many 'green' actions they were taking.
We asked people to fill in a quiz called 'Discover your smart side' which showed them whether they were 'Travel smart', 'Energy Smart' 'Resource smart', 'Shop Smart' or 'Habitat smart'. The point of this was that everyone's circumstances are different and most people will find some areas of their lives easier to change than others. We then handed out tips sheets with things they could do in their smart area to do their bit for Climate Change.
There were 88 quizzes filled in, and the vast majority of people got 5 or 6 in at least one smart area. We kept a record of how many people were smart in each area:
Travel 22 (12%)
Resources 37 (19%)
Energy 55 (29%)
Habitat 38 (20%)
Shop 39 (20%)
At the end of the quiz, people were asked to 'Think of a change you can make to help combat Climate Change'. So that's 88 people out there doing something extra to help!
