In December 2007, the group voted to run the Penistone Carry-A-Bag project. The aim of this is to reduce the use of plastic bags in Penistone.

    -    Firstly, we will provide every household in the Penistone Area with a free fabric shopping bag, kindly donated by the Co-operative.

     -    We are also helping the traders to find alternatives to plastic bags

    -    We have held a public meeting for traders and shoppers to tell people about the problems and the project in Penistone.

    -    We will be launching the project in the Summer.

Why is Penistone Carry-A-Bag our main project?

We did a lot of action on Climate Change last year, and this has been our main focus. However, Climate Change is huge, and can seem too big to tackle to a lot of people. This is a simple project which everyone can join in with, which will make a real difference to the environment. We hope that for many people, this might be a first step on the road to more environmental action. We will be doing more about Climate Change and other environmental topics after the summer.
