More info about Penistone Friends of the Earth
We started out as a sub-group of Penistone Community Partnership but in January this year (2007) decided to become a Friends of the Earth group instead. We are very grateful to the Partnership for all the help we got in setting ourselves up and establishing ourselves. Some of the projects set up while we were part of the Community Partnership are going to continue to be managed by them, although we will still link into them. Namely, these are the 'Adopt a Path' scheme and the 'Lapwing Watch'. There is still information on these in the 'Other Projects' section of this site and a link can be found in 'Websites' to Penistone Community Partnership.
There are about 20 current members of Penistone Friends of the Earth group, who are all residents of Penistone and the surrounding area.
We have decided to concentrate our efforts on Climate Change but as we are tackling it from many different angles at once, there are a large variety of things for everyone to get involved in. We have a couple of environmental 'experts' in the group and the rest of us are keen and learning fast! However, we don't know all the answers and we certainly aren't all perfectly green - we are just all trying to do what we can. New members are always welcome!
Some of the members of Penistone Environment Group are pictured below at Wentworth Castle, where we went for a social trip to see the improvements they are making to the grounds.
